If I close my eyes I can still smell the scent of lemon dancing through the air. I sink into my balcony chair, with freshly brewed coffee in hand, overlooking the Gulf of Naples and I realize this is perfection. With each crow from the roosters and gentle breeze, I fall more and more in love – oh Sorrento, you have my heart.

I had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at Il Nido Hotel Sorrento during a 2 week italian holiday. Il Nido Hotel is located about 5km from the center of Sorrento. The elevated location provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. The hotels restaurant provides a delicious international breakfast consisting of brioche, eggs, fruit, and the best freshly squeezed orange juice I have ever had, just to name a few. A free shuttle journeys down the hill to the center of Sorrento every hour.

Sorrento is an ideal home base for gallivanting around the coast. Ferries and hydrofoils connect Sorrento to Amalfi, Capri, Ischia, Naples, and Positano. I highly recommend hopping on the Sita bus to Positano and riding the ferry back. The window seats overlooking the coast are not for the faint of heart. Tickets for the Sita bus can be purchased at the tabaccherie, or smoke shop, by the train station. Pompeii and Naples can be reached by the circumvesuviana train. Both the bus and train tickets cost a few euros each.

Sorrento, a town known for its charming shops, limoncello, and breathtaking views, should be a must on any travel bucket list. I am fortunate to have ticked it off of mine.
